“It’s Time to Step Out of the Boat”

It’s Time to Step Out of the Boat. Walk by Faith, Not by Sight. Keep your eyes on Jesus, not the storm.

In Matthew 14:28-31 (KJV), Peter answered Jesus and said, “Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.” And Jesus simply said, “Come.”

Without hesitation, Peter stepped out of the boat. By faith, he did the impossible-he walked on water. As long as his eyes were fixed on Jesus, he stood firm above the waves.

But then the storm arose.

The wind became strong, the waves became frightening, and for a moment, Peter shifted his focus. He looked at the storm instead of the Savior-and he began to sink. Yet even then, Jesus reached out His hand, caught him, and lifted him up.

How often does this mirror our own lives?

We step out in faith, trusting God, believing His promises-but when challenges arise, distractions creep in. Fear whispers. Doubt grows. And suddenly, our focus shifts from Jesus to our problems.

So the question is: Where is your focus today?

Is it on Jesus, or is it on the storm around you?

The Word reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV), “For we walk by faith, not by sight. “Faith is not based on what we see-it’s based on who God is. Even when circumstances seem overwhelming, faith calls us to keep moving forward, trusting that He is in control.

You don’t need perfect faith. You don’t need great faith. You simply need faith-because God has already given each of us a measure. Even faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.

When Peter recognized Jesus, he didn’t hesitate. He stepped out boldly. It was only when fear took over that he began to fall. And even then, Jesus did not let him sink.

The same is true for you.

There may be moments when you feel distracted or discouraged. There may be times when fear tries to take hold. But God is still there, reaching out His hand, ready to lift you up.

Philippians 4:13 (KJV) declares, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”

That means you can step out. You can trust. You can overcome.

Stepping out of the boat means leaving your comfort zone. It means choosing faith over fear. It means trusting God to do what seems impossible.

You may not feel ready. You may not have all the answers. But if Jesus is calling you-He will sustain you.

Even if you stumble, you will not go under.

So today, make a decision: Fix your eyes on Jesus. Release your faith. And take that step.

Prayer

Father God, in the name of Jesus, help me not to fear, but to have faith in You. When I am faced with challenges, give me the courage to step out of the boat and trust you completely. Strengthen my faith so that I will not be moved by what I see, but by what I believe.

Remind me that You are with me, just as You were with Peter. You will not let me sink. You are my help in times of trouble, my rescue, and my strength.

I trust You Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray,

Amen.
