A Life of Purpose

Have you ever sat down and wondered about your life?

Why were you born in this era? Why were you born into the family you’re in? Why were you born in the country you’re in? And why are you facing the things you are facing right now?

Maybe you have wondered, Why was I adopted? Where are my birth parents? Why was I given away?

You may even feel as though your life was a mistake. But I’m here to tell you today: regardless of the family you were born into or adopted into God has a plan and a purpose for your life.

It was not a mistake that you were born.

You may have been born into a particular family or adopted into a particular family, but God can use your life to bring change. Your circumstances do not cancel your purpose.

Born for a Purpose

Jesus was born to Mary and Joseph, and He came into the world to save us from our sins. He came as a baby, grew, and lived a life filled with purpose and a divine plan.

And what about you?

You are here to bring change to the lives of others.

Have you ever thought about why you were born during the time you were born? Why did God allow you to have the date of birth that you have?

You could have been born during biblical times when Jesus walked the earth. You could have been there when He was crucified. But God allowed you to be born now.

You are living in the twenty-first century, and your life is filled with purpose.

God has a plan for your life.

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us:

“For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

God’s plans for you are not accidental. He knows your beginning, your present, and your future.

There Is a Time and a Purpose

Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that there is a season and a time for everything under heaven:

“There is a season, a time appointed for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven.”

There is a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.

I encourage you to read Ecclesiastes 3:1-10 in its entirety. As you do, consider the seasons of your life.

You will discover something important: your life has purpose.

You are not a mistake.

God does not make mistakies.

You could be a family changer. A world changer. A preacher. An evangelist. A teacher. An encourager. A person who brings hope to someone who feels forgotten.

Whatever God has called you to be, you were born for this time.

You are here for a reason.

God Can Use Your Story

You may look at your past and wonder how anything good could possibly come from it.

Maybe you experienced rejection. Maybe you were abandoned. Maybe you were adopted. Maybe you grew up without knowing where you came from. Maybe your family situation was painful or complicated.

But your past does not determine the value of your life.

God knows what He is doing.

He knew you before you were born. He knows your story, your struggles, your strengths, and your weaknesses. He knows the things you have never told anyone.

Your life has value.

You are special and deeply loved by God.

You are full of purpose.

You may feel stuck right now, but God can get you unstuck. Hold on. Trust Him. Keep believing.

Jesus Came for You

And if you don’t know Jesus, I want you to know that He came for you, too.

John 3:16-17 reminds us that God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, Jesus, so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life. Jesus did not come into the world to condemn us, but to save us.

Romans 10:9-10 teaches us that when we confess Jesus as Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we can be saved.

Does accepting Jesus mean your life will suddenly become perfect:

No.

You will still face difficulties. You will still have trials. There will still be days when you don’t understand what God is doing.

But you will not face those things alone.

You have an Advocate. You have a Savior. You have someone who will walk with you through the difficult seasons of life, and His name is Jesus.

You Are Not Forgotten

Remember this today:

God sees value in you, no matter where you came from or what your past looks like.

You are His creation, and He cares about you and your soul far beyond anything this world can offer.

You are not forgotten.

You are not an accident.

You are not without purpose.

You were born in the right time, and God can use your life in ways you may not yet understand.

So don’t count yourself out.

Trust God with your story.

Your life has purpose.

A Prayer for You

Lord, I pray for every person who reads this devotional. I pray that these words will encourage them and remind them that there is hope.

Father, for those who feel as though there is no hope, remind them You are their hope.

Whatever they are facing today, bring change into their lives. If they feel abandoned, let them know that You are with them. Remind them that they are loved by You and that You care for them.

Father, You promised that You would never leave them nor forsake them. Your Word says, “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me” (Psalm 27:10).

Thank You for Your love and Your promises.

Father, bless them today and always. Help them to understand that their life has purpose and that You can use every season of their story for Your glory.
