A man Standing On the Promises of God who is our solid foundation

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”-2 Peter 3:9 (KJV)

A promise is a declaration that gives someone the right to expect or claim that something will be done. It is a pledge to do, bring about, or provide something.

When we look at 2 Peter 3:9, Peter reminds us that God is not negligent or slow concerning His promises. God is not like a person who makes a promise and then fails to keep his or her word. God is patient toward us, and He does not desire that anyone should perish. Instead, He desires that we turn to Him in repentance.

This scripture shows us how deeply God loves us. Because He loves us, He keeps His Word. God is faithful to His promises.

God Is Not a Man That He Should Lie

Numbers 23:19 says:

“God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent. Hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?”

In other words, if God has spoken something to you, you can take Him at His Word. If He said it, it will come to pass. It will be fullfilled.

Habakkuk 2:3 says:

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

God has an appointed time for every promise He has made. He knows the day and the hour when it will come to pass.

What may seem like a delay to us is not a delay to God.

Sometimes, God simply tells us, “Wait.”

To wait means to remain, to stay in place, and to expect something based on what we are waiting for.

What Do We Do While We Wait?

Waiting can be difficult.

As time passes and the promise seems nowhere in sight, we can become anxious. Our faith may begin to waver, and we may start wondering, “God, when?”

But Paul gives us direction in Philippians 4:6:

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

While we wait, we should pray, praise, seek God, and give thanks.

And while we are waiting for God to answer our prayers, let us pray for someone else.

Let us intercede for our neighbors, our families, our friends, and those who are hurting. Ask God to do something special in someone else’s life. Ask Him to work a miracle, turn a child’s life around, provide a job, bless someone financially, heal the sick, save the lost, and deliver those who are bound.

While we wait, let us stand on what the Word of God says and continue to believe and trust Him with all our hearts.

God will perfect that which concerns us.

Perhaps if we spend more time praying for others, we will have less time to worry about how long our own answer is taking.

Stress can make us fainthearted. Anxiety can weaken our faith, and when our faith becomes weak, doubt can begin to creep in.

But God tells us in Psalm 46:10:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Every now and then, God has to tell us, “Be still. Wait. Stop being so anxious. Stop worrying so much. Slow down. Don’t you know that I am taking care of everything?”

Have I ever failed you?

Wait on the Lord

Isaiah 40:31 says:

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

When we wait upon the Lord, He refreshes us. He gives us the strength we need. He enables us to soar like the eagles when we keep our eyes and our minds stayed on Him rather than on our circumstances.

If we trust God, we can believe that what He has promised will come to pass.

So, do not get weary. Do not become fainthearted. Put your trust in the Lord.

Focus on God.

Stop focusing on what you don’t have.

Stop focusing on the situation.

Stop staring at the clock and wondering how long it is going to take.

Keep your eyes on the One who made the promise.

Focus on the Blesser, Not Just the Blessing.

Sometimes, we become so focused on the thing we want that we lose sight of the One who can give it to us.

It is not so much about being blessed as it is about the Blesser-the One who gives the blessing.

David said in Psalm 28:7:

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”

God loves our praise.

He loves our worship.

He loves when we exalt Him because He is worthy. He wants us to trust Him completely and take Him at His Word.

Even when we cannot see the promise, we can trust the Promiser.

Hold On Without Wavering-Hebrews 10:23 says:

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful that promised.”

God is faithful.

He does absolutely keep His promises.

So, while you wait, keep praying.

While you wait, keep praising.

While you wait, keep serving.

While you wait, pray for somebody else.

While you wait, trust God.

And while you wait, stand on the promises of God.

Your circumstances may change. Your feelings may change. People may change. But God’s Word will never fail.

You may not see it yet, but that does not mean God is not working.

The promise has an appointed time.

Hold on. Keep the faith. Keep trusting God.

He is faithful that promised.
