Look to the Lord
“Look to the Lord-My Help Comes From the Lord-Psalms 121
Psalms 121-1-6
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my Help?
My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper. The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil: He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth and even forevermore.”
When life becomes difficult and uncertainty surrounds us, it is important to remember where our help truly comes from. Psalms 121 reminds us that God is the help of those who seek Him and place their trust in Him. The writer of the Psalm declares, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help?”. He is looking toward the place where he believes God is, knowing that his strength and protection come from the Lord alone.
The psalmist quickly answers the question by saying, “My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.” What a powerful reminder that the God we serve is not limited by our circumstances. He is the Creator of heaven and earth, and there is nothing too difficult for Him. No matter what you may be facing today, God is able to sustain you, strengthen you, and keep you.
The scripture tells us that God “will not allow your foot to be moved.” Even during seasons when life feels unstable, God is able to hold you steady. Situations may shake around you, but when your trust is anchored in Him, you will not fall apart. God watches over His children continually. He never grows weary, and He never sleeps. While people may fail us or become absent during difficult times, God remains faithful at every moment.
“The Lord is your keeper.” Those words alone should bring comfort to every believer. God is your protector, your covering, and your refuge. He stands beside you as your shade at your right hand. Just as He protected the children of Israel in the wilderness, He still still protects His people today. During the heat of the day, God provided a cloud to cover them, and during the night, He guided them with fire by night. In the same way, God knows how to provide exactly what you need in every season of your life.
The Lord also promises to preserve you from evil and preserve your soul. Consider the life of Job. Job endured tremendous suffering. He lost his children, his possessions, and even his health. Yet through every trial, God preserved him. Job remained faithful through the testing, and in the end, God restored everything he had lost and blessed him even greater than before.
When you are going through hardship, do not believe that your story is over. God is still preserving you. He is watching over your going out and your coming in. His hand remains upon your life and upon the lives of those you love. As long as we continue to trust Him, place our faith in Him, and depend upon Him, God will continue to keep us.
Today, look to the Lord. Lift your eyes to the hills and remember beyond every doubt that your help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
