Patience
“Be patient. God is working, even in the waiting.”
“Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.”-Psalm 27:14
What is patience? Sometimes we stop and wonder-do we really have it? We know patience is a virtue. We know it is something God calls us to have. Yet, if we’re honest, there are moments when we feel ourselves running out of it.
We live in a fast-paced world where almost everything is at our fingertips. With just a few taps on our phones or clicks on our computers, we can order food, shop, communicate, and receive results. We’ve grown used to not having to wait. Convenience has become our norm.
When we pray and ask God for something, it doesn’t always come instantly. It’s not like placing an online order or going through a drive-thru. And that’s where the challenge begins. How do we remain patient with God when we’re so used to getting what we want right away?
Patience is necessary. It’s more than just waiting-it’s trusting. Sometimes we don’t understand why God makes us wait, but often, it is in the waiting that He is developing our character. He is shaping us, teaching us, and preparing us for something greater.
Prayer is not a microwave process. We don’t receive everything immediately just because we ask. There are lessons in the delay. There is growth in the waiting.
Think about everyday situations. When a line is too long, we get frustrated. When things don’t move quickly enough, we feel irritated. Instead of simply waiting, we become impatient. Now ask yourself-am I a patient person? Or do I need everything right away?
Do we ever become frustrated with God when our prayers aren’t answered immediately? Do we sometimes feel like He hasn’t heard us?
The Bible reminds us to patiently wait on the Lord. When we do, He renews our strength. What we may not realize is that in our rush, we might be asking for something that isn’t best for us. God, in His wisdom, may be holding back because He has something better.
Have you ever wanted something so badly, only to get it and realize it wasn’t what you expected? Sometimes we do the same in our prayers. We ask with urgency, not realizing that God sees the full picture while we only see a part.
Patience reaches into every area of our lives-our relationships, our families, our work, and even how we treat strangers. Are we patient with our spouse, our children, our grandchildren, or our coworkers? Are we patient on the road, or do we rush others and ourselves?
Often, we hurry through life and realize we’re not really going anywhere. And in our impatience, we can unintentionally make others feel pressured and overwhelmed.
Today, take a moment to pause and reflect. Ask God to help you develop patience.
Prayer
Lord, this is my prayer: teach me to be patient in all things. Even when I don’t like where I am, and even when I don’t understand what You are doing, help me to trust You and wait on You.
Help me not to rush through life, but to slow down-to quiet my thoughts and calm my heart. When I feel impatient, remind me that You are working behind the scenes for my good.
Teach me patience, even in the hardest seasons of my life. I believe that in Your perfect time, You will make everything right.
Thank You for hearing my prayer, for strengthening me, and guiding me as I learn to wait on You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thought
The next time you feel impatience rising, pause and ask God to slow you down-your thoughts, your pace, your spirit. In the waiting, you will find peace, growth, and a deeper trust in Him.
