Wait on the Lord

Have you ever waited for something that seemed like it was taking forever? It could be a financial blessing, a good job, healing for yourself or a loved one, finishing college or the birth of a grandchild, or marriage. There are many things we wait for, and sometimes the waiting can become discouraging. We may even begin to wonder if what we are waiting for will ever come to pass.
The Bible tells the story of Abraham. When he was 75 years old, God promised him that he would have a child. In Genesis 15:5-6, God brought Abraham outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” Then He said, “So shall your descendants be.” The Bible says that Abraham believed God, trusted Him, and remained steadfast, and it was counted to him as righteousness.
What made this promise seem impossible was that Abraham and Sarah were both advanced in age, and Sarah was barren. Abraham was 75 years old, and Sarah was 65. Yet nothing is impossible with God.
As they waited, Sarah tried to help God fulfill His promise by giving her handmaid, Hagar, to Abraham. But God did not need their help. Sarah’s decision brought difficulties into their lives because it was not God’s plan. God had already spoken His promise, and He was fully capable of bringing it to pass.
Years later, in Genesis 18, the Lord appeared to Abraham and reminded him that Sarah would have a son. Sarah overheard the conversation and laughed to herself because she was barren and well past childbearing age. But the Lord asked, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14)
Twenty five years after the promise was given, Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 when Issac was born. What seemed impossible became possible because God always keeps His promises.
Romans 4:20 tells us that Abraham “did not stagger at the promise of God through unbelief.” He trusted God even when circumstances said otherwise.
What happens when you pray and the answer doesn’t come right away? What if it takes months, years, or even longer than you expected? Would you become discouraged? Would you stop believing?
Psalm 27:14 encourages us, “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”
Whatever you are waiting for, trust God. He never changes, and He never fails to keep His Word. Though the promise may seem delayed, it will come at the appointed time. It will be a kairos moment-the right time, the perfect time, the opportune time.
Waiting is often the hardest part of the journey, but it is rarely wasted. When progress feels slow, remember that God is working behind the scenes. Great things often require unseen groundwork.
Be encouraged today. Trust God’s timing, keep moving forward in faith, and know that every step is bringing you closer to His promise. Just as Abraham and Sarah received what God promised, you too can trust that what God has spoken will come to pass.
Wait patiently on the Lord and be of good courage and He will strengthen your heart. No matter how long the journey may seem, keep trusting, keep believing, and keep standing on His promises. God is faithful, and what He has spoken concerning your life will surely come to pass in His perfect time.
